VALLEJO, California (PHLTODAYUSA) – Bob Sampayan, a grandson of famous Filipino writer (America is in the Heart, I Want the Wide American Earth), labor activist and workers and minority rights fighter in America Carlos Sampayan Bulosan,  is a candidate for mayor in this city in the November 3, 2015 elections. He is the current vice mayor of the city.

Bob Sampayan, a retired Vallejo Police Sergeant, was first elected to the Vallejo city council in 2011. He is the incumbent vice mayor of Vallejo.

Vallejo is considered another Filipino town being home to many Filipinos and Filipino Americans, including Natalie A. Coughlin, the winningest woman Olympic swimmer with a dozen or so gold, silver and bronze medals in at least three Olympic Games, whose mother hails from Cavite and whose father is a police officer like Sampayan.

Bob was the first to launch his candidacy as the next mayor of Vallejo and garnered notable early endorsements.

“I believe 100 percent that Bob will be a great mayor,” said former Vallejo City council member Stephanie Gomes.

Fellow council member Katy Miessner also endorsed Bob as the next mayor calling him “honest, trustworthy and always positive about Vallejo.”

“He is the best person to lead this city and share all the positive attributes that Vallejo has to offer with the outside world. He is consensus builder. As mayor, Bob will bring people together to solve problems.” Katy explained.

Cleaning up North Mare Island as the city’s next economic generator and bringing quality businesses and local jobs to the island are some of Bob’s top priorities as mayor of Vallejo.

Bob received formal education at Hartnell Community College in Salinas and at San Jose State University majoring in Administration of Justice. He is married to Ramona with two grown children and three grandchildren who also reside in Vallejo.
