SAN JUAN CITY – First termer Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo, widow of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, has formally accepted the Liberal Party’s offer to become the running mate of LP standard bearer, former Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II.
Robredo, a lawyer who had served the Public Attorney’s Office and an active leader of civil society, formalized her acceptance of the offer in the presence of President Aquino, Roxas and LP leaders.
Robredo thus joined three other Bicolanos in the race for the number two post of the land – Sen Francis “Chiz” Escudero of Sorsogon, the runningmate of Sen. Mary Grace Poe Llamanzares; Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV of Nacionalista Party and presumably Sen. Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan also of Camarines Sur of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) who has Vice President Jesus Jose Maria “Jejomar” Binay as presidential candidate.
Sen. Trillanes has declared support for Sen. Poe for president. Another NP senator, Alan Peter Cayetano, has also declared his candidacy for VP, and was last reported to be courting Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to be his runningmate.
