OLONGAPO CITY – A Filipino American who is the primary suspect in the killing of his estranged wife’s friend in Zambales may soon be extradited to the Philippines following his arrest last month in the United States where he fled after the killing.
The Fil-American, Jonathan Dewayne Ciocon Viane, was arrested last September 4 in Iowa by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents in connection with the killing of Karie Ces ”Aika” De Dios Mojica..

Mojica’s body was found dumped at a dike along Sto. Tomas River in San Felipe, Zambales in July.
Police investigators said Mojica’s body had choke marks on her neck and her face was shattered by three gunshot wounds from a 9 mm pistol. Her body was also burned from the neck to her legs.
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Monday confirmed that Jonathan Dewayne Ciocon Viane has already been arrested by US authorities, and that the Philippines has two months to seek his extradition.

“Subject (Viane) was arrested in Iowa on 4 Sept 2015 (Friday) based on our request for provisional arrest dated Aug 20, 2015, and received by the Embassy on Sept. 1,” said De Lima in a text message to reporters.

“Since it’s a provisional arrest, we have 60 days from his arrest to submit the full extradition request,” she added. – See more at:

The Department of Justice has formally requested the US government for the extradition of Viane. Under an extradition treaty between the two countries, the Philippines had 60 days to file the complete extradition request.

If the Philippine authorities will be successful, Viane maybe brought back to Zambales to face the murder charges filed against him and an accomplice this month or up to November.
It was gathered Aika could have been killed after she tried to inquire from Viane’s girl friend about the whereabouts of Viane’s child.

He said Aika was the best friend of Viane’s ex-wife; and that Viane and his ex were fighting over the custody of their child.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has arrested the primary suspect in the killing of Aika Mojica, the young woman found dead in a Zambales town in July.
According to a report on “24 Oras Weekend” aired Sunday night, the FBI has confirmed that Jonathan Dewayne Ciocon Viane was arrested
“After nung nine days ni Aika, nahuli si Niño [dela Cruz], then ngayon na 40 days naman niya, ibinigay niya sa amin si Jonathan,” Erika Jane Mojica, the victim’s sister, said.
“Hindi naman ho ako sasaya na ho, eh. Kahit na ho nahuli na ho iyon, hindi na ho kami sasaya na buong pamilya ko dahil wala na ho yung anak ko eh,” her father Josar Mojica said.
Liane Viane, the suspect’s estranged wife, said the suspect, who had already confessed to the crime has recanted.
“Nagmamakaawa pa rin siya na hindi siya ang may kasalanan, pero ang hirap po kasing tanggapin yung mga sinasabi niya,” she said.
Liane believes Jonathan himself killed Aika for telling her the whereabouts of the Vianes’ child whom Jonathan had brought to the Philippines.
Aika was found in a ditch in San Felipe town on July 25. Her body had been burned, and aside from the gunshot wounds, she had marks on her neck suggesting she had been choked.
Olongapo City Mayor Rolen Paulino is set to write Justice Secretary Leila de Lima to ask her to ask her US counterparts to send Viane to the Philippines to face charges. — JDS, GMA News
