Batangas Governor Vilma Santos Rules Out VP Bid, May Run for Congress

BATANGAS CITY – With Lipa City and Batangas City now separate congressional districts, Batangas Governor and Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos turned down calls to run for vice president under the Liberal Party.
The lady governor, however, gave room for a possible run for a seat in the House of Representatives, representing Lipa City where she served for three terms as mayor.
“Hindi po talaga ako prepared. Wala po yan (vice-presidency) sa plano ko. Kung pagkakatiwalaan nila ako because I’m Vilma Santos and yet I cannot deliver, eh huwag naman. Magiging unfair ako sa mga tao. But I may consider running for Congress. Yun siguro kasi Lipa pa din, Batangas pa din. Doon ako nag-start na maraming natutunan,” she was quoted on ABS-CBN as saying as she headed a Zumba workout in the Batangas capitol.

Before the deadline for filing of candidacy, Governor Santos-Recto said she will announce her political plans.
Interviewed by Dianne Castillejos of ABS-CBN, Vilma said she is a Liberal and will support the party’s candidate who is Manuel “Mar” Roxas II.
She said Sen. Grace Poe is her friend, but since she is with LP, she has to follow the party decision.
“Maganda ang intention ni Grace. Okay yan, pero Liberal ako,” she said.
She hinted she would want to go back as governor of Batangas later on
