Even actors and actress are discussing politics and the coming elections now.
And many of them are being reported to be planning to run for various posts themselves.
For one, comely actress Heart Evangelista is reportedly running for mayor of Sorsogon City where her husband, Senator Francis Chiz Escudero, once as congressman.
The family of Sen. Escudero is well-known in Sorsogon. His late father Salvador Escudero III, once served as Secretary of Agriculture. Dean of the University of the Philippines and Director of the Bureau of Animal Industry, and congressman of Sorsogon. His mother is the current member of the House of Representatives representing Sorsogon City and nearby towns.
Heart actually had been rumoured to be running in previous elections but the plans did not materialize. Not for the 2019 elections, Escudero family supporters said.
Popular blogger, dancer and now government official Margaux Mocha Uson, a native of Pangasinan, is being asked to run for senator under the administration ticket.
Lately, singer Freddie Aguilar, a native of Cagayan Valley, was reported to be being considered for a senate run by the administration party PDP Laban like Assistant Secretary Esther Margaux Mocha Uson of the Presidential Communications Office.
Popular columnist and broadcaster Ramon Tulfo and brother Erwin Tulfo are also reportedly eyeing a senate post like Mocha under the administration slate. And so with broadcast journalist Jiggy Manicad of GMA Network.
In Tacloban City, former actress Cristina (Kring Kring) Gonzales, who is now mayor of Tacloban City, will reportedly not run for reelection to give way to her husband, former mayor Alfred Romualdez.
It was gathered that Mayor Kring Kring wants to focus on her daughter Sofia who is now 18 years old and wants to be a singer or go into acting just like her and her father, Jose Mari Gonzales, who had also served as congressman of San Juan and Mandaluyong in Metro Manila.
In Manila, it was gathered that actor and former senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada is eyeing the mayorship to replace his father, former President Joseph Estrada. Another actor, former Vice Mayor Francisco Dumagoso, popularly known as Isko Moreno in show business, will likely duel with Estrada. Former Senate President and Speaker Manuel Villar Jr., one of the Philippines and world’s top billionaires, is reportedly eyeing the Manila mayorship as a jumping board for another presidential run in 2022.
In Cavite, it was reported the actor and Vice Governor Jolo Revilla, whose real name is Ramon Bautista IV, might not run for reelection but go for governorship instead.
Jolo’s mother, actress Lani Mercado, on the other hand, will seek reelection as mayor of Bacoor City or switch post with Rep. Strike Revilla, whom she replaced as city mayor.
Jolo, boyfriend of popular actress Jodi Sta Maria, lately started beefing up his image and has been tapped for a role in the popular ABS-CBN television series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” which stars Coco Martin.
Jolo is now playing an important role in the series.
Vice Jolo is also shooting for his movie “72 Hours” with brothers Luigi at Bryan. Imus Film Productions, their family film firm, is producing the movie.
Another star of “FPJ’s Ang Probinsiyano,” former senator Manuel “Lito” Lapid, is reportedly being considered for another run in the Senate.
In Quezon City, actor and former National Youth Commission official Dingdong Dantes may run for congressman in the fourth district of Quezon City or senator.
There is no official announcement, however, from the actor, whose real name is Jose Sixto Gonzales Dantes III, but his wife, top actress Marian Rivera is reportedly all out in supporting Dingdong’s aspiration to serve the country.
If Dingdong Dantes runs, he will be joining officials who are in show business in Quezon City, known as the “City of Stars,” led by outgoing Mayor Herbert Bautista, Rep. Alfred Vargas, who won unopposed in the 2016 elections; Councilor Roderick Paulate and Councilor Gian Sotto, who is reportedly running for vice mayor under Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte in 2019.
If Dingdong Dantes wins, he will be following the footsteps of the late actor and senator Rogelio dela Rosa, the first popular actor to win as Philippine senator, and dela Rosa’s brother in law, former zarzuela actor Diosdado Macapagal who went on to become congressman of Pampanga, Vice President and then President of the Philippines.
The late Senator Rogelio dela Rosa’s brother, Jaime dela Rosa, served as vice mayor of Manila where actor and former councilor Yul Servo, whose real name is John Marvin Nieto, is now the current congressman of the third district and actors Robert Ortega and Lou Veloso as incumbent councilors.
