Art Gabot Madlaing Wealth & Health Column How to Work Out in 10 Minutes or Less



As the founder of FITNESS FOR HUMANITY, my wife Virginia Jimenez Madlaing and I were blessed to have bonding with our older daughter Darlene Madlaing Gamble and our 12-year-old grandson John Micheal Madlaing Gamble during their two-week vacation in San Francisco Bay Area.


Last week, we watched together the San Francisco Giants game at the AT & T Park in San Francisco; joined together the Wednesday evening Devotional & Prayer Fellowship and Sunday morning Worship Services at the Golden Gate Church of Christ in San Francisco. Darlene, John Micheal and I also joined the Get-Together and Thanksgiving Dinner at Patio Filipino Restaurant in San Bruno, California last Thursday, June 30, with my 97-year-old mother Elena Sampayan Gabot Madlaing, and John Micheal’s uncles, aunts and cousins.


Last Saturday, July 9, we attended together the Cabilocaan (Calasiao, Pangasinan) International Picnic at the Orange Community Park in South San Francisco, California. Then, last Monday, July 11, we enjoyed together the rides and shows at the Great America in Santa Clara, California.


Despite our tight schedules, my daughter Darlene and my grandson John Micheal observed that I completed regularly my 10-minute workout at home, in the park and at the fellowship hall. One morning while doing my 10-minute workout at home, my grandson asked unexpectedly.


How old are you Laki? (Laki is grandfather in Pangasinan and Ilocano).


I’m now 69 years old but I have the stamina and energy of a 45-year-old man,” I answered.


Laki, that kind of workout can be done only by a younger man,” John Micheal explained.


The stamina and energy observed by my grandson and daughter was the result of my regular 10-minute workout for more than five years. Working out doesn’t have to take much time.


You know what does take time? These are getting in the car, driving to the gym or fitness center, waiting people who are using the equipment you want to use, getting in the car, and then driving home.

  4. FOOT BENDING ON THE BACK (one of Oprah Winfrey‘s exercises taught by personal trainer Bob Greene)
  5. STAND UP DENDING (a portion of QOGONG Exercises by Dr. Yang Jiving-Ming)
  6. JUMPING JACK (taught on the lawn at the White House for school children as recommended by U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama)
  7. BURPEE (a portion of Atty. Vic Magary’s workout he learned at the U.S. Army boot camp training)
