PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (via PhilAmPress/MTVi) –- A record of over 30,000 crowd showed up Thursday night in the political rally of tandem of presidential aspirant Sen. Grace Poe and runningmate Sen. Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero at the Baywalk of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan.
The local police estimated that the crowd ranged between 30,000 to 40,000, besting the 25,000 crowd in a political rally of Poe-Escudero’s Partido Galing at Puso (PGP) in Tacloban last month.
If elected, Poe vowed to help improve the local tourism to boost the livelihood in Palawan, recognized as one of the islands in the world with the best tourist spots.
To boost the local tourism industry, Poe said the government must address first the problems of electricity and water particularly in Puerto Princessa.
”We will help the local government to assure that you have enough power supply and we will spend to lower it cost. You have to have enough water supply. There are good sources of water here like rivers,” Poe said.
Poe, who got big numbers of votes when she topped the 2013 senatorial elections, assured that her government would allot big funds for Palawan to improve the local eco-tourism.
”More will come here if your eco-tourism will be improved further,” she said.
Poe drew loud applause and chanted ‘Grace Poe!’ after promising that she would not hesitate to remove to corrupt officials under her administration even they are her friends and to address criminality, particularly illegal drugs.
”Pero maniwala kayo, ‘pag gumawa kayo ng kalokohan, sa aking gobyerno, kaibigan man kita o kaaway, ipapakulong kita,” she added to the delight of the adoring crowd.
For his part, Escudero vowed to address all the roots of the problems in the country if they will be elected.
”Kahirapan.
Poe’s campaign was boosted by popular actor Coco Martin, co-star of Susan Roces in the top-rating series “Ang Probinsiyano” on ABS-CBN.
Addressing the crowd, Coco said he will not endorse any candidate but personally, he preferred to vote Poe not because of their friendship but for the senator’s platforms of government.
”For me, dapat ang pangulo ay may dunong at talino, the one who can lead the country, has determination to fulfil their promises, the one who can listen to our problems, the one with complete family, who has clean and honest vision, one with the heart,” the actor said.
Martin and other showbiz personalities are expected to join Poe’s campaign sorties in the remaining two weeks of the campaign period.Poe will take a two weekday break to prepare for the third and final presidential debates to be held in Pangasinan on Sunday.
