MANILA (PhilAmPress) – If the latest Social Weather Station (SWS) were to be the basis, world boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao will be winners in the race for 12 senators in the May 9 elections.
Pacquiao, who just won his bout with American champion Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas, was the eighth placer in the SWS survey commissioned by Business World. Pacquiao belongs to the local People’s Champ Party and is a senatorial bet of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) which has Vice President Jejomar Binay as presidential candidate.
Five of the 12 probable winners in the senatorial race are from the administration Liberal Party (LP), while two are from the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) according to the survey conducted on March 20 to April 2.
Leading the 50 candidates vying for a Senate seat were Senate President Franklin Drilon of LP who scored 45% and NPC’s Vicente Sotto III with 42%. They are followed by former Senators Francis Pangilinan of LP and Panfilo Lacson (independent), both with 37%.
Also in the Senate “Magic 12” were eight candidates who were in a statistical tie, including former Justice Secretary Leila De Lima, LP (31%)
Juan Miguel Zubiri, independent (31%), former Akbayan party-list Representative Risa Hontiveros (30%), Senator Sergio Osmeña III, independent (34.2%), Senator Ralph Recto, LP (30%), former Senator Richard Gordon (30%) and former TESDA director Joel Villanueva, LP (28%)
The survey covered 1,500 adult respondents from all over the country. It has an error margin of ± 3 percent.
